Lawncare in North Texas – What to do in the Fall?

Updated: Feb 14, 2023

Just because Fall season is around the corner and your grass won’t grow as fast, it does not mean you should stop taking care of your lawn! The work you put in now can ensure a healthy lawn and an optimal start in the spring. Here’s why and how. Summer months are hard on the lawns and plants in North Texas. After this record-high summer heat, we can only imagine how much nutrients from the soil got used up by our lawn!

If your pants and grass start the fall and go into the winter with weak roots, it will be difficult for them to survive until Spring. So fall season, AKA NOW, it’s the perfect time to prepare your lawn to replenish all lost nutrients and its soil. We’ve prepared the best set of tips for you below and if you need professional assistance, you can always check out our list of lawn services. 01. Continue Watering and Mowing This will help the roots maintain its health. Not as often or extreme as the Summer times, but this will help you prepare them for the Winter time appropriately.

02. Apply Pre-Emergent Fertilizer This will help roots get nutrients they ended and keep the weeds from growing as often when Spring starts! It’s the perfect boost just before the winter comings. 03. Leaf Cleanup No one wants to rake leaves, but did you know it’s vital for you to remove them as soon as possible?

Leaves covering your lawn can bring fungal disease and make the roots of your grass/plants to rot. Obviously, you don’t need to remove them immediately as they fall from trees, but it’s advisable too focus on areas where lots of leaves are pilling up.

04. Weed Control If you didn’t take care of this early on in the year and still have it in the fall, now it’s the time to get down and dirty! We recommend manually pulling them out or using a spot spray herbicide (but we advice to be careful around plants). Then like mentioned earlier, using the pre-emergent after they are collected will help prevent and lower the number of them growing back in the Spring.
